Reduct was founded in 2001 by a group of internet-boom entrepreneurs who recognized the need for a mapping solution for non-metallic underground pipes and ducts. Over the years, Reduct recognized that positional data quality is a key pipeline management issue for all underground utility pipes and ducts and developed a series of innovative gyroscope-based mapping solutions for virtually all types of sub-surface pipe and duct infrastructures. Today, Reduct is recognized as a global innovator in the field of underground utility network management and detection.
Reduct’s 3D gyroscopic mapping technology provides the high accurate XYZ data of your utility pipes and ducts for your GIS platform. This technology does not require above-ground tracing and can therefore be used to any depth. It is not affected by electromagnetic noise so it can be used near power cables, metal sheet piling and other such sources of noise.
With the as-build maps in hand you know the 3D location of your underground assets, thus a perfect tool for verifying contractor performance and minimizing future loss of time & money due to damages to underground assets. This all while assisting condition assessment reporting of the pipe and providing bend radius and pipe inclination data, while optimizing safety for utility workers.
Inertial measurement probes contain a range of inertial sensors including:
- Gyroscopes
- Accelerometers
- Inclinometers
ABM versus DR Technology:
ABM based systems are equipped with Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) technology.
- MEMS based systems are currently limited to mapping lengths up to 300mpipe length.
DR based systems are equipped with Fibre-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology.
- FOG based systems are more stable over time and better resistant against shocks, and can therefore map unlimited pipe segment lengths, although we recommend having a waypoint every 1000-1500m.
