It is expected that there are around 2/3 of the population living in urban areas in 2050, of which Asia and Africa are considered to have the fastest growth rates. Today, 54 percent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 66 percent during urbanization. By 2030, there will be 44 megacities across the world with a population of over 10 million and a high probability for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This means that urban areas in these two places will be faced with problems of aging population, infrastructure overload, pollution of the environment, air, noise, affecting the lives as well as the human business process.
So far, more than 20 cities in Vietnam officially have plans to build a smart city (Smart City).
To build a Smart City, it is necessary to build a shared digital database, create channels for connection, internal communication between departments within the government and especially among the government, enterprise and citizens, thereby improving the efficiency of government operations, the quality of public services, and increasing the accessibility and enjoyment of services and utilities, as well as the active participation and contribution of businesses and citizens on common urban affairs.
